Skin (poem)

I want to peel my skin off

fire burns underneath it’s fragile layers
countless pin pricks accumulate
into an ebb and flow of pain

I want to peel my skin off

polite company doesn’t acknowledge this
so I have to wait to rip at it
and am satisfied for a short while

I want to peel my skin off

fingernails scar a closed fist’s palm
a small body starts to fray
claw marks hide secrets too

I want to peel my skin off
