Calling all writers!
The madness starts soon guys!
If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it is National Novel Writing Month in November. It is the time where thousands of writers try to write 50,000 words in a month- 1700 ish words a day. We basically try to thrash out a first draft of a novel in a month. Now, yes it is rushed and unedited but it gets writers actually writing which is brilliant. Sometimes we become so concerned with getting one sentence perfect we never finish the rest of the work. Doing NaNo means you don’t have time to edit. Just get it all out there and then in December, fingers crossed, you’ll have a whole novel which you can go back and edit to your hearts content.
I will be updating on here how much I have written each day, a summary of it or an excuse why I haven’t written it.
I’m hoping that it will make me more accountable for my writing. I really want to hit that 50,000 word mark.
I didn’t do NaNo last year, so I am even more determined this year.
To prepare I have…
I have written out the outline of my plot.
I have done a little biography of all of my main/important characters.
I have tried to figure out any underlying themes.
I have done practice exercises from the NaNoWriMo book- Ready Set Novel (click for the link to buy it on Amazon.)
The Ready Set Novel workbook by the NaNo guys is actually really helpful. It gets you to think about your novel in a completely different way. I have discovered plot holes through this that I never would have before and figured out how to combat them. This has made my work richer and more thought through.
I seriously can’t wait. I know I will not sleep for a month, it will drive me crazy, I will be a nightmare and I will become so caffeine dependant I will potentially turn into a teapot BUT I am so excited.
I will be having meet ups with my friends to also do writing exercises, help and encourage each other and generally be accountable to each other for the commitment we have now all made.
Along with lots of coursework and a copywriting job, November is going to be a busy month.
Get writing guys!
